MUMBAI: As part of Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM’s exclusive marketing tie-up with Om Shanti Om, a contest, ‘Karde Disco’ is being organized across 21 cities.
Listeners have to simply tune into the radio station and send in their entries. In the Mumbai phase of the contest the selected finalists were invited to the Radio Mirchi studio on 26 October for the final round. The winners of this will be given an opportunity to meet Shah Rukh Khan. Apart from meet and greet with the star cast, there are various other prizes in store for the listeners like autographed CDs, Shah Rukh’s clothes from Om Shanti Om and other movie merchandise.
The Mumbai event focused on the 70’s groove. The judges selected the winners on the basis of their performance, style of dressing and how well the person conducted himself in the 70’s fashion. The finalists were given 98.3 seconds to do an act from the 70’s (sing / dance / say a dialogue / enact a scene) in front of the judge, music director Vishal. To add to the retro quotient, contestants were provided props from the 70’s era such as a bow tie, wigs, sunglasses etc to add spice and variety to their sizzling performances.
Radio Mirchi has designed special on-air programs that will take listeners into the 70’s time machine and as part of the theme, the station has been airing special interviews with fashion designer Shania NC for giving tips on getting the 70s look, including the special songs that epitomized the 70’s.
In Pune the contest is planned as a ’70s party’ with entertainment, games with special contest around it. Anyone in the city with the name of Om or Shanti has been extended a special invitation for the party.
Radio Mirchi national marketing head Kaushik Ghosh stated, “Radio Mirchi has almost defined the way movies are treated and presented as entertainment on Radio. We have come to be associated with all the biggest movies coming out of Bollywood. We are happy to be the exclusive radio partners with this years most anticipated movie, Om Shanti Om. There is a tremendous buzz about the movie and this movie taps into the nostalgia of the 70s with its theme. Thus it became the theme for the ‘Kar De Disco’ contest, which has found a tremendous connect with the listeners. We are happy to bring Bollywood closer to our listeners through our on-air innovations.”
