MUMBAI: Music company Saregama India along with singer Sonu Niigaam recently held a concert called Rafi Resurrected in the UK in association with City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO).
Three concerts were held in Birmingham, Manchester and London Coliseum. Seventy five members of CBSO arranged and orchestrated 18 of Mohammad Rafi’s tracks.
On 17 June, 2008, Saregama India launched the double CD of Rafi Resurrected, consisting of 16 songs and four instrumentals of Mohd. Rafi sung by Niigaam. The concept of the album was an idea by Tim Pottier, former librarian of the CBSO and artistic producer, who personally chose Best of Mohd. Rafi’s tracks.
Saregama India is the custodian of over half of all the music ever recorded in India with over 300,000 songs, 23,000 artists and 50,000 contracts.
Saregama India vice president A&R, new media and publishing Atul Churamani said, “Rafi Resurrected was one of the most ambitious projects for us. The concert was a mega success in all three cities especially the grand finale at London Coliseum and I don’t think that the city would had ever witnessed such a magnificent event in the recent past. When Tim approached us with the thought, we knew this would create history and it truly has.
