[tps_footer]Political upheavals are its peak nowadays with the JNU incident surpassing all norms. Another incident which rightly conveys the disturbing scenario of the situation of the country is that a Malayalam TV anchor has got around 2000 threat calls for moderating a debate on Mahishasur Jayanti.
The debate on the Mahishasur Jayanti provoked the question whether it should be considered as an act of treason. The following discussion took an ugly turn when the chief coordinating editor of Asianet News TV Sindhu Sooryakumar was then threatened with calls from various activists and political workers from all ends.
According to reports, the pro Hindutva groups have blamed Sindhu of calling Durga as a sex worker on the show. Another set of reports claimed that those who have witnessed the show are aware of the fact that those words were actually read out by V V Rajesh who is the BJP State Secretary. He was reading out the pamphlets which were apparently distributed in the JNU campus and later were also presented at the Parliament by HRD Minister Smriti Irani.
5 people have been arrested for the case and the officials claimed that all these people were connected to the BJP, RSS, Hindu groups and Sri Rama Sena. Sindhu Sooryakumar also confessed that she has been getting threat calls every moment for the comment made on Durga.
Police officials are now tracing the Facebook post and the user who used that post to spread the rumor that Sindhu had used derogatory terms for Durga. The officials are also on the lookout as to how Sindhu’s number was circulated amongst various Whatsapp groups.
The journalists of the state have now protested against this incident and are demanding for punishment against the offenders.[/tps_footer]
