MUMBAI: Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Besharam’ may not have done well at the box office but he knows how to take it in his stride – by growing a beard.

Ranbir Kapoor was spotted at an event for Philips Lighting where he was crowned the brand ambassador for the product. The actor was recently in the flop ‘Besharam’ and the blockbuster ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’.

“I am jobless now… I have no new films, hence this look. I don’t know if you have seen my last film. It is embarrassing to talk about the economics of business. Actors share profit and loss of a film. It is not true,” Ranbir Kapoor said, rubbishing rumours that he has raised his acting fee to Rs 20 crore.

The ‘jobless’ part of Ranbir Kapoor’s conversation isn’t true, of course. He shot for ‘Bombay Velvet recently and will also start shooting for Imtiaz Ali’s next opposite Deepika Padukone.

Meanwhile, Ranbir Kapoor is also prepping his first co-production with Anurag Basu in ‘Jagga Jasoos’. Don’t be surprised if Ranbir Kapoor’s bearded jobless look is for one of his upcoming films.

BOX OFFICE: ‘Besharam’ Hits Rock Bottom!

    BESHARAM 07102013

MUMBAI: ‘Besharam’ had many things aligned in its favour, but alas, it was let down by a weak storyline, outdated songs and terrible direction.

For a film that released on a public holiday on Wednesday, ‘Besharam’ has made Rs 425 million (Rs 42.4 crore) nett after five days (including the weekend).

After a total of Rs 300 million (Rs 30 crore) nett in the first three days, “Besharam’ earned Rs 55 million (Rs 5.5 crore) nett and Rs 70 million (Rs 7 crore) nett on Saturday and Sunday respectively. This would usually be a good number for any normal film, but ‘Besharam’ is not normal.

‘Besharam’ has Ranbir Kapoor, one of the hottest stars right now, and director Abhinav Singh Kashyap at its helm. The director’s last film was Salman Khan-starrer ‘Dabangg’.

We mention once again that ‘Besharam’ had its opening mid-week, on a Wednesday which was a national holiday and yet it earned almost the same as ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ – Ranbir Kapoor’s previous hit – did on its first day, which wasn’t even a holiday.

High hopes were pinned on the film because it was also the sole Hindi film release this week, that too with more screens that Shah Rukh Khan-starrer ‘Chennai Express’. Besides that, no prominent Hindi film had been released the week before that. “Besharam’ could have been a juggernaut, but landed up being not more than another rock at the bottom of the ocean.

BOX OFFICE: Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Besharam’ Suffers On Friday

    BESHARAM 03102013

MUMBAI: Looks like the mid-week opening and the bad film is hurting ‘Besharam’ badly.

Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Besharam’ had collected Rs 250 million (Rs 25 crore) nett on the first two days. (Details here)

On the third day – Friday – ‘Besharam’ collected Rs 50 million (Rs 5 crore) nett, which is even lesser than Thursday’s Rs 60 million (Rs 5 crore) nett.

This collection has shed darkness on the weekend. The collections could improve slightly because there aren’t many other films in theaters either but the reviews and the word of mouth haven’t helped this film. ‘Besharam’ looks set to dip further.

  • BOX OFFICE: Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Besharam’ Crashes

    BesharamReview

MUMBAI: On the first day, due to the National Holiday, ‘Besharam’ managed to make a good collection of Rs 190 million (Rs. 19 crore) nett. But it has been downhill from there.

‘Besharam’ has opened to bad reviews and the word-of-mouth hasn’t been favourable too. The only bright point in ‘Besharam’ is possibly Ranbir Kapoor’s saving act along with his parents Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh.

But that alone could not save ‘Besharam’ from a bad Day 2. The film earned Rs 60 million (Rs 6 crore) nett on Thursday. Noteworthy here is that a drop was imminent as Thursday was a normal working day.

Of course, the real test for ‘Besharam’ will be once the weekend arrives, but could it be that the mid-week opening hampered the film? Maybe this could be something for producers and distributors to ponder about.

Top Seven Reasons To Watch Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Besharam’

    BESHARAM 01102013

MUMBAI: Ranbir Kapoor has already been a big hit earlier this year in ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’, but that film had many things going for it, compared to his new film ‘Besharam’, set to release tomorrow.

‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ had both Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor, and as much as Ranbir seems to enjoy superstar status, one can’t deny that Deepika has delivered the goods. It also had foot-tapping numbers, especially in ‘Badtameez Dil’ and ‘Balam Pichkari’.

Ranbir Kapoor has himself admitted that ‘Besharam’ is not enjoying a positive buzz before the release of the film, but that hasn’t stopped it from becoming the largest release in India among Hindi films. But will people rush to watch it? Here we give you seven reasons to watch Ranbir Kapoor display his shamelessness, for what it’s worth.

Leaving ‘Chennai Express’ Behind: Ranbir Kapoor’s Big ‘Besharam’ Release

    BESHARAM 27092013

MUMBAI: Ranbir Kapoor has now entered the race to become the number one, leaving everyone behind by breaking Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Chennai Express’ record.

Eid 2013, Shah Rukh Khan had gone out of his way to ensure that his last release ‘Chennai Express’ had the biggest ever release in Bollywood. But now Ranbir Kapoor has beaten the King Khan with his upcoming release ‘Besharam’ by earning more screens.

‘Chennai Express’ was released with 3500 screens in India and 700 plus screens abroad, but now according to Utpal Acharya, Distribution Head of Reliance Entertainment, ‘Besharam’ will have 3600 plus screens in India making it the biggest release in Hindi film industry till date.

With so many screens and a solo release to boot, it looks like ‘Besharam’ might be Ranbir Kapoor’s second hit this year. The young lad is all set to join the top rung of stars in Bollywood!

  • Ranbir Kapoor To Go ‘Besharam’ 2 Days In Advance

    BESHARAM 24092013

MUMBAI: Ranbir Kapoor’s last big release ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ won hearts of audiences and was a huge success at the ticket windows. The film, which opened on a Friday earned huge moolah at the box-office.

But the actor’s latest film ‘Besharam’ is all set to be his biggest opening as the film is set for a Wednesday release.

‘Besharam’ will release on 2 October, a National Holiday. This will be the first time that a Ranbir Kapoor film will release on a non-Friday.

Director Abhinav Singh Kashyap says, “Most people enjoy an off on 2 October. We took the decision to release the film mid-week keeping in mind Ranbir’s growing stature at the box-office. I am sure he will get a big initial opening.”

Sanjeev Lamba, CEO, Reliance Entertainment adds, “People are likely to step out for a family outing and our film would be perfect for them. Since the three Kapoors are sharing screen space for the first time, we wanted to make it extra special and thus zeroed in on that particular date.”

Meanwhile single-screen theatres are quite upbeat with ‘Besharam’ hitting screens 2 days in advance.

A source (who didn’t wish to be quoted) from Eros, a prominent single-screen theatre says, “We expect the response to be positive. In the past too, Salman Khan and other stars have had advance releases. We are quite excited. And since Eros is located at a prime location, we see advantage on a holiday release.

When contacted Galaxy, a multiplex in Bandra, a source said, “It’s too early to talk about ‘Besharam’ as the date is far away. But we are expecting a positive response.

Business Of Cinema also contacted Cinemax chain of multiplexes for comments but they couldn’t be reached.

With all the excitement around ‘Besharam’ one cannot wait for 2 October. After all Ranbir Kapoor is going ‘Besharam’ in advance for his fans!

BESHARAM: ‘Chal Hand Uthake Nachche’ – Ode To Rishi Kapoor’s Cult Dance Moves

    BESHARAM SONG 20092013

MUMBAI: Abhinav Singh Kashyap’s ‘Besharam’ has the entire Kapoor family come together and ‘Chal Hand Uthake Nachche’ is a perfect tribute by the youngest Kapoor a.k.a Ranbir to his darling daddy Rishi Kapoor.

Starting from the actor’s looks in films like ‘Bobby’, ‘Sagar’ and his police look in ‘Besharam’, Ranbir sports the iconic Karz costume and matches daddy step to step.

With some peppy lyrics sung by Daler Mehndi, Mika and Sunidhi Chauhan truly grooving in Punjabi style, joining the boys is mummy Neetu Singh, who effortlessly dances like an ageless diva.

With the entire family grooving to the bubbly dance number, ‘Chal Hand Uthake Nachche’ surely will become a chartbuster in days to come! And with Ranbir’s stylish outfit and Rishi and Neetu’s Chulbul and Bulbul act, it looks like the guys go out and out ‘Besharam’ in this fun dance number!

Dressed to kill! Or should we say like the lyrics of the song, ”9 baj gaye, hum saj gaye…hum dheet hai jitney, sweet hai utne oh bachche…chal hand uthake nachche!”

HE’S BACK! Ranbir Kapoor, Back In Town, Launches Song

    BESHARAM06092013

MUMBAI: Ranbir Kapoor is back in town after shooting for director Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Bombay Velvet’ and he has already started painting the town red.

Last night, Ranbir Kapoor, along with ‘Besharam’ director Abhinav Singh Kashyap, launched a new track from the film. The song is ‘Aare Aare’ and is sung by Mika Singh and Shreya Ghoshal.

Ranbir Kapoor was his usual charming self, making a grand entry onto the stage. He danced off to the song and introduced the song as well, before his director Abhinav Singh Kashyap came on stage and took questions with him.

The song features Ranbir Kapoor trying to woo Pallavi Sharda in a village fair scenario.

‘Besharam’, also starring Rishi Kapoor, Neetu Singh and Javed Jaffrey, releases on 2 October, 2013.

MUMBAI: Ranbir Kapoor may be a street smart thief on the run from cops played by his real-life parents Neetu Singh and Rishi Kapoor in ‘Besharam’, but that doesn’t stop them from shaking a leg for the film.

For a purely promotional number, the trio have come together for a song sung by Daler Mehndi and brother Mika Singh. The song ‘Hand Uthake Nachche’ is composed by Lalit Pandit.

Ranbir Kapoor will be seen wearing a white suit in the song while Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh will be seen in police avatar. The song is currently being shot at Film City where a special set has been erected for the song.

‘Besharam’ is directed by Abhinav Singh Kashyap, who made ‘Dabangg’ earlier and also stars Javed Jaffrey and Pallavi Sharda. It releases on 2 October, 2013.

  • The Kapoor Clan Go ‘Besharam’ At Dance Show Finale!

The Kapoor Clan Go ‘Besharam’ At Dance Show Finale!

    KAPOOR04092013

MUMBAI: Ranbir Kapoor is back from Sri Lanka after the first schedule of shooting for Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Bombay Velvet’, and he’s already onto promotions of Anurag’s brother Abhinav Singh Kashyap’s ‘Besharam’.

Ranbir Kapoor appeared on the grand finale of a dance show but with his parents Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh as well. As everyone may know, the couple play a pivotal role in ‘Besharam’ as two cops who are on Ranbir Kapoor’s tail.

Although they don’t play a family in ‘Besharam’, the camaraderie was visible on the sets of the dance show where Madhuri Dixit-Nene, Karan Johar and Remo D’souza were the judges.

Ranbir Kapoor, being the prolific dancer, showed off his dance moves to songs from the film. Neetu Singh too was jovial enough to dance on the floor.

‘Besharam’ which will star Ranbir Kapoor for the second time onscreen this year, releases on 2 October, 2013.

  • BESHARAM: Ranbir Kapoor-Pallavi Sharda Jugalbandi’s In New Song ‘Lut Gaye’

BESHARAM: Ranbir Kapoor-Pallavi Sharda Jugalbandi’s In New Song ‘Lut Gaye’

    BESHARAM30082013

Everyone knows that Ranbir Kapoor is a brilliant dancer. Remember his moves in ‘Badtameez Dil’ from ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’? He just shows Bollywood once again that he can do every move possible in the new song from ‘Besharam’ called ‘Lut Gaye (Tere Mohalle)’.

Pallavi Sharda starts off the song at a wedding, singing about how the boys in her lane look at her through their windows. Ranbir Kapoor has just entered the reception and takes a drink to cool down but soon gets in on the action.

Appropriately, Ranbir Kapoor’s entry on the dance floor are greeted by cheers from the crowd present. Sporting severe stubble, Ranbir Kapoor’s dance consists of nimble leg movement throughout the song while wearing a suit. Not an easy feat. Some of his dance steps also seem like the one we’d dance to while on the road without a care or bother in the world. Fultu besharam!

The video is reminiscent of the nineties, everything from the song to the choreography. The heroine shaking her hips while Ranbir has his say? Full nineties feel!

Looks like the makers of the film have a hit on their hands with this number. ‘Besharam’, directed by ‘Dabangg’ director Abhinav Singh Kashyap, releases on 2 October, 2013.

  • BESHARAM: Is Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Pyar Ki Ghanti’ A Rip-Off?

BESHARAM: Is Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Pyar Ki Ghanti’ A Rip-Off?

    BESHRAM19082013

MUMBAI: It isn’t uncommon that hit Bollywood numbers and even scripts are ripped off from around the world. While several music composers and makers generously credit the original source, some manage to get away without the controversies, while some just get unlucky. Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Pyar Ki Ghanti’ number from the upcoming ‘Besharam’ falls into the third list.

The song apparently is lifted from an Italian number, Bella Ciao, a song popular in the 1940’s and re-recorded by Italian singer, Giovanna Daffini in 1962. The song has been in the public domain (for over 60 years and any one can use it), and hence, composer Lalit Pandit says, there isn’t a need to take permission.

“It is only the starting part, which is similar to Bella Ciao”, says Lalit Pandit, who goes solo with ‘Besharam’.

The Jatin-Lalit duo have been quite famous for their hit numbers in several hit films like ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’, ‘Fanaa’, ‘Hum Tum’ etc. before they parted ways.

Incidentally during ‘Dabangg’, Lalit Pandit was accused of copying the hit ‘Munni’ number from a popular Pakistani film, ‘Charlie’.

There have been many instances in the past when music giants like Anu Malik, Pritam, have been accused of alleged plagiarism of tunes without permission. In recent times, a popular band ‘Euphoria’ alleged that composer Ram Sampath (‘Talaash’, ‘Satyamev Jayate’) has used tunes from their collection.

‘Pyar Ki Ghanti’ also has Ranbir Kapoor lending his vocal chords for some portions. The song has already become popular and is currently viral on social media.

With Lalit Pandit, crediting the original composer may just resolve the controversy. Everyone remembers the ‘Krazzy 4’ controversy where director Rakesh Roshan and Filmkraft had to pay a hefty compensation for copying a theme.

‘Besharam’ directed by Abhinav Singh Kashyap stars Ranbir Kapoor and Pallavi Sharda is slated for release on 2 October.

  • Ranbir Kapoor To Sing ‘Pyar Ki Ghanti’ In ‘Besharam’

Ranbir Kapoor To Sing ‘Pyar Ki Ghanti’ In ‘Besharam’

    BESHARAM14082013

MUMBAI: Shah Rukh Khan has sung a song for ‘Josh’, Salman Khan has sung for ‘Hello Brother’, Aamir Khan has sung for ‘Ghulam’ and Amitabh Bachchan has sung for ‘Kahaani’. Now Ranbir Kapoor has joined the ranks by singing for his next film ‘Besharam’.

Ranbir Kapoor has lent his voice to a song called ‘Pyar Ki Ghanti’ in the film. ‘Besharam’ is directed by Abhinav Singh Kashyap, who last directed Salman Khan in ‘Dabangg’.

The music has been composed by Lalit Pandit of Jatin-Lalit fame. Ranbir Kapoor has collaborated with other newcomers Sujeet Shetty and Amitosh Nagpal on the song.

Abhinav Singh Kashyap said that there were no second thoughts about letting Ranbir sing the song “as it is almost in verse form and no other sound would have worked.”

After a big hit in ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ earlier this year, Ranbir Kapoor looks to have another big hit in ‘Besharam’. Now to see how much Ranbir’s singing prowess will affect his fan following.

  • ‘Besharam’ Director Antics Impress Bhushan Kumar

‘Besharam’ Director Antics Impress Bhushan Kumar

    BESHARAM05082013

MUMBAI: Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Besharam’ is far from release. But more than Ranbir Kapoor, it is Abhinav Singh Kashyap who is on a celebratory mode.

Even before ‘Besharam’ goes ‘Besharam’ in theatres, Abhinav has grabbed a plum deal with Bhushan Kumar from T-Series.

The director has been approached with an offer from T-series to helm a film for the production house. Apparently the director has also been paid a large sum of Rs 9 crore (for a partnership venture) for directing the film.

The concept of the film is no less different from ‘Dabangg’ and ‘Besharam’ and is on similar lines.

Bhushan Kumar, head T-Series said, “Now that Abhinav is done with ‘Besharam’ he will be directing a complete-mass entertainer for T-Series.”

While the cast is still being finalised, Bhushan says that the announcement will be made soon. And he adds on, “This film will have a rollicking album, with many energetic dance numbers”. With T-series at the front, it’s pretty obvious. It needs to be seen whether this ‘Besharam’ works.

  • TRAILER REVIEW: Ranbir Kapoor In And As ‘Besharam’

TRAILER REVIEW: Ranbir Kapoor In And As ‘Besharam’

    BESHARAM31072013

For all those fond of the nineties and ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’ (DDLJ), director Abhinav Singh Kashyap and actor Ranbir Kapoor are going to pee on all your memories in the very first seconds of the trailer. The trailer opens in the mustard fields of Punjab made famous in ‘DDLJ’ but with a really besharam spin on it.

We are, thus, introduced to Ranbir Kapoor’s character Babli, an street-smart orphan who works as a car mechanic. He also, steals cars on the sidelines to support his orphanage.

This besharam Babli lands up hurting the love of his life Tara (played by newcomer Pallavi Sharda) and at the same time lands up in trouble with Inspector Chulbul Chautala (played by Ranbir Kapoor’s real-life dad Rishi Kapoor) and Head Constable Bulbul Chautala (played by Ranbir Kapoor’s real-life mom Neetu Singh).

These two police characters are introduced smartly with winks to their real-life relationships. There are winks throughout the trailer in fact. Besides the ‘DDLJ’ wink, there’s also a hint at Abhinav Singh Kashyap’s previous film ‘Dabangg’ in the dialogues.

We also get a sneak-peek at Pallavi Sharda who plays a quintessential tough Punjabi girl, and Javed Jaffrey who plays a quintessential Mumbai don. Remember Javed Jaffrey singing ‘I Am Mum-Bhai’?

The film seems very self-aware in its treatment. The action is over-the-top, with gravity-defying stunts, a trend that doesn’t seem to stop. The music is by Lalit Pandit, one-half of the famed duo Jatin-Lalit and seems like am ix of Punjabi-Hindi pop.

The ‘Besharam’ trailer has its moments, and Ranbir Kapoor is charming as always. Let’s hope that the film is good too. ‘Besharam’ releases on Gandhi Jayanti, 2 October, 2013.
