Meet The New Spider-Man, Tom Holland

Sony Entertainment and Marvel Pictures’ partnership to recreate the Spiderman franchise is taking shape on a fast pace. Reportedly, 19-year-old British actor Tom Holland has been casted to play the role of Spider-Man in the film set for a 2017 release, replacing actor Andrew Garfield. The decision to cast a young actor comes into light after the production house’s decided to concentrate on the teenage phase of the character Peter Parker when he was just a high-school kid.

Directed by Jon Watts, the film is set to release July 28, according to the statement given by Sony and Marvel. As everyone knows, the original Spiderman was played by Toby McGuire followed by Andrew Garfield who starred in The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 that released in the recent years. According to the leaked emails of Sony Entertainment, it was decided early on that Garfield will be replaced in the upcoming Spider-Man films.

Sony Entertainment chairman Tom Rothman is of an opinion that during the selection process, they came across a lot of young aspiring actors but found Tom Holland’s screen tests to be special. He further added by saying the team is off to a roaring start, which becomes quite obvious from the recent videos posted by Holland on Instagram that show the actor rehearsing on his action skills.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige had earlier revealed that the new Spiderman would be a 15-16 year old Peter Parker. According to Kevin, the studio wants to explore the relatively untouched episodes of the character’s life from his young high school period. Interestingly the Marvel president himself quotes young Spiderman to be his favourite phase of the character.

Tom Holland gained notable recognition after his role in the tsunami based film The Impossible where he played the role of Naomi Watt’s son. Reportedly he would also be having a cameo in the upcoming Marvel film Captain America: Civil War. The young British star has also done roles in several theatre dramas. It would definitely be interesting to see if Holland succeeds to impress the audiences who are honestly getting quite bored of the endless remakes being made on Spider-Man.
