TEASER: Sunny Deol Returns With ‘Gadar’ Director In ‘Singh Saab The Great’

Sunny Deol reteams with his 'Gadar' director to present himself in the Salman Khan-Akshay Kumar-Ajay Devgn mold of larger-than-life characters in 'Singh Saab The Great'.

Looks like Sunny Deol has finally joined the group of actors who love their larger-than-life characters and gravity-defying stunts. After Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar, Sunny Deol will now be the big action hero in ‘Singh Saab The Great’. The movie is directed by his ‘Gadar’ director Anil Sharma.

The trailer starts off with Sunny Deol sporting a turban and making a grand entry on a bike into a dusty village square. Holding a sword in each hand, he then gives a speech about what Guru Govind Singh had said about what to do with sinners. But of course, Sunny Deol does not need swords. His ‘dhai kilo ka haath’ is enough for every situation.

To give Sunny Deol’s voice the need to sound important, a constant echo is heard after every word he utters. And that’s not all. The score is clearly more Hollywood-ised than most Bollywood film trailers. It wants to make us feel as if we’re watching ‘Gladiator’, but how do you take a Superman-ish Sunny Deol seriously in a non-Superman film?

Towards the end of the trailer, Sunny Deol even uproots an old (presumably) banyan tree’s root and uses it to hurl the villains in all directions. Now, if only he had also taken up a handpump to throw at the villains, we’d have a ‘Gadar’ homage.

This was just a teaser, and so only the villain’s eyes are shown in a brief moment. Considering Prakash Raj and Ravi Kishan are in the movie, it could be either of them. We’re putting our bets on Prakash Raj, because he has become Bollywood’s favourite villain against superhuman Bollywood heroes.

‘Singh Saab The Great’ releases on 22 November, 2013.
