MUMBAI: Mammoth Media and Entertainment Pvt Ltd have released the trailer of their upcoming ‘Satya 2’- a Ram Gopal Varma film. The action thriller is a sequel to RGV’s ‘Satya’ (1998).
The trailer of the film starts off with a rattle snake hissing and a photo-play of the most feared underworld thugs.
“Dawood Ibrahim has retired, Chota Shakeel has stopped killing, Abu Salem is in jail, Chota Rajan is believed to have become a government agent, and Arun Gawli has gone into politics.” By the year 2013, the Mumbai police has made the underworld non-existent.
In the backdrop of an eagle soaring in the sky, inverted images of a crowded Mumbai and traffic moving backwards, enters the new antagonist. “Jab tak paise ki lalach, paise waalo se nafrat and system ke khilaaf soch rahe, Tab tak underworld ko koi khatam nahi kar sakta.” (Until there are people who crave for money, hate people having money and people who oppose the system exist, the underworld cannot be ended by anyone.)
‘Satya’ (1998) with its stellar cast comprising of J.D Chakravarthy, Urmila Matondkar, Manoj Bajpayee and Shefali Shah had won six Filmfare Awards, including the Critics Award for the Best Film.
Director Ram Gopal Varma tweets, “The new ‘Satya’ will also have a knowledge of the modern day policing methods and will have a vision for newer revenue models for the underworld…The new ‘Satya’ will be armed with his understanding of the mistakes made by Dawood, Rajan, Salem, Shakeel, and Gawli… ‘Satya 2’ is about a guy who comes to Mumbai in 2013 to reinvent and re-establish a non-existent underworld…. ‘Satya’ was about a guy who came in 1997 to Mumbai and got shaped by the then existing conditions in the underworld.”
The makers of ‘Satya 2’ haven’t yet revealed it’s release date, but the film is expected in 2013.
