Toonz Animation inks $50 mn deal with Liberation Entertainment

MUMBAI: Indian animation company Toonz Animation India and Los Angeles-based Liberation Entertainment have entered into a strategic partnership agreement. Through the partnership, Liberation Entertainment will act as an exclusive distribution arm of Toonz properties across the world, beyond the Indian sub-continent (comprising of the SAARC countries).

The projects include the second season of Wolverine and The X Men (co-production with Marvel), second season of Speed Racer – Next Generation (co-production with LionsGate), the original Speed Racer Classic series comprising 52 episodes, and two new television series Brave and HTDT.

According to the deal, television rights of the above mentioned series produced by Toonz and given to Liberation Entertainment is worth a combined excess of $50 million.

Toonz Animation India CEO P. Jayakumar said, "The association with Liberation Entertainment, which has vast experience and unmatched success in the area of worldwide television sales, catering to all platforms including satellite, cable, terrestrial, and national networks, enhances the efforts of Toonz Animation to become a truly global animation content producer and distributor."

Liberation Entertainment chairman Jay Boberg added, "We are delighted to solidify this long term output arrangement with Toonz. The worldwide success of Wolverine and The X-Men season 2, coupled with the Speed Racer franchise and other properties transform Liberation Entertainment into a major provider of branded, high quality action-adventure animation. We look forward to a mutually beneficial relationship between Toonz and Liberation, while continuing to supply the top broadcasters and cabsat channels around the globe with entertaining kids content."
