Looking at the cast of the film starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, Shahid Kapoor, and Alia Bhatt, everyone assumed Udta Punjab to be a romantic comedy.
But here’s the twist, Udta Punjab is a story based on the drug abuse problem that has affected the youth of Punjab. Directed by Abhishek Chaubey, the thriller will be having a drug mafia, and the characters of the film will be revolving around the storyline of drug abuse amongst the youth.

Over the years, there haven’t been many movies that tackled the issue of drug abuse in our country. Shaitaan starring Kalki Koechlin, which came out in 2011, was one of the only film that portrayed substance-abusing characters.
Recent news was that Punjabi actor Diljit Dosanj is casted opposite Kareena Kapoor. No wonder Bebo had to take tutoring lessons to brush up her Punjabi. Being a Punjabi actor himself, Diljit may be able to put in more life into the character.
So all in all, Udta Punjab will be based on the drug trafficking and the issue of substance abuse amongst youth happening in the state of Punjab. The film produced by Phantom Films has already begun shooting and is set to come out next year.
