Box Office: Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam Opens To Poor Start

Drishyam--002One of the much awaited films of the year, Drishyam released today and the film opened to a really poor start at the Box Office. Ajay Devgn starrer thriller suspense film Drishyam, which released today, received occupancy rate of 10-15% only at the Box Office on its opening day. This is really low compared to the reaction we saw Bollywood films receive this year at the Box Office.

Drishyam’s opening is lower than Emraan Hashmi’s Hamari Adhuri Kahani’s opening day, the film that failed to do a good business at the Box Office. Seems like Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan, even on its 3rd Friday at the Box Office is pulling major crowd towards him at the theatres from other films and this might have caused Ajay Devgn his film Drishyam’s opening at the Box Office, as the film received really poor occupancy rate.

On Thursday, director Nishikant Kamat’s Drishyam had paid previews where it again received very low occupancy and managed to only collect Rs. 50 lakhs net (5 million) approx. The thriller drama film Drishyam, which also stars Shriya Saran and Rajat Kapoor, will take us through the beautiful scenery of Panjim, Goa, as we meet Vishal Salgaonkar, played by Ajay Devgn and his beautiful family in the upcoming suspense thriller. In Drishyam, everything in the life of this cable operator called Vishal, seems normal.  Just when we thought nothing can go wrong in Vishal’s life things take a wild turn.

The basic idea of paid preview was to let the word of mouth get around, so it can build up audiences for the film’s opening on Friday. However, by the looks of it, it seems that the paid preview came of no help as the film disappointingly opened to poor star on its first day at the Box Office. Now we wait for the properFriday collections of Drishyam to come in.

Drishyam Review: An Unremarkable Remake

Drishyam-

The disadvantage of being a remake that comes after the Malayalam original and the fine Tamil remake is that you have a hard act to follow. And director Nishikant Kamat does not match up to the suspense and emotion delivered by Jeethu Joseph’s Drishyam or Papanasam, which are suspiciously similar to Keigo Higashino’s Japanese novel ‘The Devotion of Suspect X’.
