Carmike Cinemas ups Gary Green as director of alternate content

MUMBAI: Carmike Cinemas, Inc has promoted Gary Green to the position of director of alternate content.

Green has been with Carmike since 1986, most recently as its southern division manager. Prior to joining Carmike, he was employed by Stewart and Everett Theatres.

“We are delighted to appoint Gary as the company’s new director of alternate content. He brings a wealth of technological expertise to this position and possesses a superior knowledge of the exhibition industry and the growing field of alternate content. Given Carmike’s leadership position in digital and 3D, we expect the realm of alternate content to play an ever-increasing role as we strive to bring new and exciting programming to our entertainment complexes and valued patrons,” said Carmike Cinemas COO Fred Van Noy.

Carmike was pleased with the response to two live in 3D sporting events at select theatres in early 2009. The Fedex BCS National Championship college football game and NBA All-Star Saturday Night, were both shown in 30+ locations. Several upcoming events are in the pipeline, including a live, digital broadcast of Handel’s Messiah from The Chapel of King’s College Cambridge (England), featuring a performance by the famous King’s College Choir.
