CinemaNow, Universal ink burn to DVD deal

MUMBAI: CinemaNow Inc., an internet provider of downloadable videos, will sell a downloadable DVD version of The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift through its website.

Visitors to CinemaNow can download the entire contents of the DVD including menus and bonus features for only $9.99. The downloaded video can then be burned to a blank DVD for playback in virtually any DVD player, allowing customers to watch on their TV.

Universal Pictures’ The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift is the third installment in the popular street racing franchise, which has earned more than $62 million.

CinemaNow will celebrate the online release of the movie with a giveaway awarding one lucky winner a competition drifting car, a high-performance vehicle customized for the racetrack.

CinemaNow is currently the only website in the world with a Burn to DVD service for Hollywood movies, which enables customers to legally download a major studio movie and burn it to a blank DVD for playback in virtually any DVD player. With this service customers get all the additional features available on a standard DVD purchased in retail stores, such as full graphic menus, 5.1 surround sound, special features, language, remote control navigation, commentary tracks and bonus materials, as well as printable DVD label and cover art.

“Our customers will be the first to experience a major step forward in movies on the Internet: the ability to download a DVD from the comfort of home the same day the DVD becomes available via retail outlets. We remain committed to advancing the Burn to DVD format, and Universal Pictures has joined us at the forefront of digital video distribution,” said CinemaNow president Bruce Eisen.

“CinemaNow’s Burn to DVD service offers consumers a fast, convenient way to enjoy Universal films on disc, complete with the full array of bonus features available to purchasers of the packaged DVD. Partnering with CinemaNow not only ensures secure online distribution for our content but also underscores Universal’s continuing push to leverage emerging technologies as new avenues of entertainment content delivery,” said Universal Studios Home Entertainment president Craig Kornblau.

CinemaNow currently offers more than 100 premium movies and videos as part of its Burn to DVD service. Customers can choose movies and other content from a wide variety of Hollywood studios and video providers. Today, CinemaNow will also add new Burn to DVD titles from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment including Inside Man and Bring It On: All or Nothing.
