Box office lull: New film releases get only 10-15% opening

MUMBAI: This Friday (6 March) saw the release of 13-B, Dhoondte Reh Jaaoge and Karma Aur Holi, all of which had an average 10 -15 percent opening at the box office.

R Madhavan and Neetu Chandra starrer 13 B is the better flick in this lot and the movie’s opening is marginally better than Dhoondte Reh Jaaoge.

Ironically, 13 B’s Tamil version Yavarum Nalam released simultaneously today in Chennai and is doing very well. The movie opened to 60 percent this morning and picked up rapidly to run in houseful shows by afternoon.

This week’s Hollywood releases The Reader and Revolutionary Road have opened to a 10 – 15 percent in the morning. However, most shows for the two movies are scheduled in the evening and night.

Earlier weeks’ releases such as Dev D and Slumdog Millionaire are holding on this week as well to marginal occupancy levels in multiplexes. Also English movie releases Milk, The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button and The Pink Panther 2 are also running to 10 – 15 occupancy.
