Dadasaheb Phalke Academy bestows award to Brij Bhushan

Mumbai: The Dadasaheb Phalke Academy has conferred the Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award to Brij Bhushan for his devoted services to Indian film and television industry at the awards function held on Phalke Jayanti, 30 April, in Mumbai.

Bhushan has been serving the broadcasting industry for over 60 years and has been one the few to be a part of the television revolution since its inception In India. His association goes back to the time when he stepped into Mumbai and did the rounds of studios to find a career in music but ended up on the shooting floors, acting opposite Madhubala.

Although the film never saw the light of the day, it resulted in his lifetime relationship with the actress when he married her sister.

His many facets also include a very low-profile, but extremely successful role of a music director. He has scored music for 12 feature films, which include films like Sujata. The musical score for Ganga, a Films Division production, won an award in the International film festival of documentaries.

One of the most popular jingles on the Indian advertising front ‘Tandurusti ki raksha karta hain Lifebuoy’ has been composed by him and is still on, unchanged for 50 long years, adopted by five countries across the globe!

Bhushan shared the awards platform with Legendary film-maker Dr B R Chopra, who was conferred with the prestigious Phalke Ratna award, Rajesh Khanna who received the Phalke Golden Actor award, the sizzling star of 50s and 60s, Shyama, who received the Phalke Golden Era Actor award, dance icon Sitara Devi who was honored with Phalke Indian Classical Dancer award and many other senior artistes and technicians.
