Editor’s Note: 10,000 stories and still counting

With two and a half years of reporting on the film business behind us, Businessofcinema.com touched the 10,000th story mark on 19 September, 2008.

Despite hurdles provided by the virtual and real world alike a la virus attacks, server crashes and staff crunch amongst others, the founding team at Businessofcinema.com stuck to their guns and kept you abreast with the latest. In our journey thus far there have been ups as well as downs but as they say… The show must go on!

Over these couple of years, the team at Businessofcinema.com has burnt the midnight oil so that you – our readers – get your daily dose of news. Be it the squabble over revenue sharing terms between distributors and exhibitors, an in-depth look into the corporate game plan, the latest trends in the cinema space or the expansion plans of companies operating in the film industry… Businessofcinema.com has its pulse firmly on the developments.

We have been the FIRST to report on new companies planning to foray into the film business – be it the Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group, Mahindra & Mahindra or the newest entrant the BJN Group.

We’ve been told that we report on the latest big ticket deals before the ink has dried on the contracts!

We’ve been told that we’re so quick with the news that it’s almost addictive!

While the industry grew by leaps and bounds, we too matched pace with our understanding of the business. New trends of selling emerged, cash flow was in abundance, companies raised money on international bourses and Hollywood Studios came shopping to India. And all this in a matter of two years!

On the one hand, while everything seemed hunky dory, a worry was constantly bubbling underneath… Will the Dream Run soon end? Is it too good to be true? Rising acquisition prices of movie, music and satellite rights coupled with actors demanding a share in profits kept the industry on tenterhooks. But the film fraternity has braved it all and continues to do so as do we, at Businessofcinema.com.

So stay tuned to Businessofcinema.com as we keep the stories coming…

Thank you for reading us!
