MUMBAI: Eros International is planning to invest approximately $40-60 million to produce films in India through its new company with Charles Darby – EyeQube Studios.
Eros announced its newly formed visual effects led entity EyeQube with Darby as its creative director. Under EyeQube, Eros will invest monies, bring various projects on board projects, and distribute the content worldwide.
To start with, EyeQube has commenced work on two films – Drona and Aladin. Apart from co-producing such visual effects oriented films, EyeQube will also produce content in-house.
“Instead on going out in search of work all the time, we would also create something by ourselves,” adds Darby, who is already working on three – four concepts.
“An initial investment of approximately $ 5-7 million is being pumped in to set up the infrastructure. Additionally, $ 40-60 million will be invested over two – three years to produce in-house films under EyeQube. Movies that come in through Eros will be over and above this investment,” Eros International COO and commercial director Jyoti Deshpande told Businessofcinema.com.
While at present the company has only two projects in its kitty, going forward the company is looking at working on three – four films simultaneously. A team of approximately 300 people will be trained and appointed at Eyeqube.
Having worked on and won accolades for movies like Titanic, The Matrix, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, The Fifth Element and Minority Report, Darby’s expertise lies in Hollywood films. What’s more, in the future if any Hollywood movies do come his way, they will be worked upon under EyeQube.
