Hollywood producer buys Under Trial remake rights

MUMBAI: Producer Nazim Rizvi’s film Under Trial, that will finally release this weekend, is being sought by a Hollywood company that wants to buy the re-make rights of the film for $1,10,000.

According to Rizvi, representatives of the Ackersht 8 Productions will be in India this weekend to finalise the deal. Says a jubilant Rizvi, “William John from Ackersht 8 Productions called me to say that he wants to make my movie in English. He’s offered me an equivalent of Rs 52.5 million (Rs 5.25 crore). His only condition is that I should not release the film in the overseas market till they start work on the subject.”

Rizvi says that Pen’s Jayantilal Gada, who owns the overseas rights to the film, has agreed to the condition. According to Rizvi, this is the first Hindi film to be remade in English. “Anil Thadani of A A Films will release my film in the Bombay circuit,” he adds.

Under Trial stars Rajpal Yadav, Monica Castilino, Mukesh Tiwari, Kader Khan, Prem Chopra, Protima Kazmi and Rajesh Puri. The film has been directed by Aziz Khan and is budgeted at Rs 20 million (Rs two crore). After the release of Under Trial, Rizvi will start work on Hello… Hum Lallan Bol Rahein Hain, to be directed by Dilip Shukla. This film too will star Rajpal Yadav in the lead and is budgeted at Rs 15 million (Rs 1.5 crore).
