MUMBAI: Eight years after the release of Dil Se, the trio of Mani Ratnam, Gulzar and A R Rahman are all set to recreate magic in their forthcoming film Guru. The music of the film released on 5 November.
Present at the launch were Amitabh Bachchan, Mani Ratnam, Gulzar, Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bahchcan and Madhavan. The music has been released on Sony BMG and will be in stores on 18 November. This will also be the first time that Guru mobile downloads will be available prior to the music release.
At the music release, Gulzar recited a few lines from a song of Guru and Rahman sung the song. There are seven tracks in the album, which have been sung by Alka Yagnik, Udit Narayan, Hariharan, Shreya Ghoshal, Chitra, Madhushree, A R Rahman and Bappi Lahiri.
Mani Ratnam and A R Rahman’s association began 15 years ago with Roja. Shedding light on their partnership Ratnam said, “A R Rahman is a director’s dream and nightmare. Dream because he will give music more time than you ask for and nightmare because he won’t be satisfied with the music even if you are.”
Rahman added, “Each time, more than us people are looking forward to see what Ratnam and Rahman are going to do. When I look at a scene each time, I wonder what I can do differently. And I am sure Mani feels the same when he hears my music. Guru is also about that- interpreting- with the same soul but with a different approach.”
Guru stars Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bahchcan, Mithun Chakravarthy, Madhavan and Vidya Balan. The concept of Guru has been summarized in three words “Villager. Visionary. Winner.”
