Mumbai: A session’s court today refused to ban Kumar Mangat’s Omkara, starring Ajay Devgan, Saif Ali Khan, Viveik Oberoi and Bipasha Basu on the charge that its dialogues were vulgar and in bad taste.
The court asked the filmmaker Kumar Mangat and director Vishal Bhardwaj to file an affidavit by September 14 when the matter would be heard. Hearing the petition, the court observed that it was not granting any ad-interim relief now and posted the matter for arguments on September 14.
Actor Naeem Khan, the accuser, had asked that till the matter was finally heard and disposed of, the movie should be pulled out from theatres as an interim measure. His petition also took objection to the word “Om” in the title of the film Omkara and asked that the title be changed.
When contacted, Kumar Mangat, the producer of the film said, “the court has cleared our movie so now there no question of a ban. I think that Naeem is a small-time actor who just wants free and cheap publicity.” We tried to contact Vishal Bhardwaj but couldn’t because he was busy with the story sessions of Julius Caesar.
