Mumbai: People Pictures has announced its latest venture 99 to be written and directed by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK. 99 is an original story inspired by real events.
The film, spanning a few genres, is slick, fast-paced, realistic and funny. Recently, Raj and DK’s short film Shor made it to the final shortlist of 40 films at Cannes Film Festival 2008. Their earlier feature Flavors elicited a huge response from audiences the world over as well as garnering critical acclaim from the Indian and International media.
Raj and DK say, "We wanted to make a movie that is fresh, appealing, funny and smart. 99 is highly entertaining yet grounded, with a climax that is loaded with great laughs and surprises."
The story revolves around two men based in two different cities. What follows is an unpredictable, side-splitting ride through two cities with extremely likeable and real characters caught in the most unbelievable circumstances and twists of fate.
The key features of this fact-meets-fiction crime comedy are its grounded characters, tight logic, magical realism and its skillfully realistic portrayal of life in these two cities.
People Pictures CEO Aditya Shastri added, "We are very excited to be working with filmmakers Raj and Krishna. In them we see a fresh new approach to genre busting movies. For 99, we were very conscious to make a smart comedy and, at the same time, break stereotypes. It is a serious attempt at making a comic film."
