MUMBAI: PVR Pictures and Dibakar Banerjee Productions (DBP) have joined hands to make a political thriller, which will be directed by Banerjee.
The film is tentatively titled Shanghai.
Speaking to Businessofcinema.com, Banerjee said, “This film will be a political thriller. However, having said that, it is not a film about just politicians; it’s about the everyday politics and the interactions between the different people in society.”
According to Banerjee, this will be his most violent film. "It will be more of an emotional violence. The story is about a violent incident and the search that follows," he adds.
PVR Pictures will finance and distribute the film worldwide. PVR Group chairman and MD Ajay Bijli said, "Dibakar is one of the finest among the new breed of Indian filmmakers and will offer him every support to help him realize his vision."
The producers are in advanced stages of casting and will make the announcement soon. The film will be a medium budget film, but according to Banerjee, it will not look and feel like a medium budget film.
Shanghai will go on floors in March / April next year and is slated for a 2011 release.
Banerjee has earlier made movies like Khosla Ka Ghosla, Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! and Love Sex Aur Dhokha.
