MUMBAI: Yesteryear superstar Rajesh Khanna will return to the big screen in Wafaa – A Deadly Love Story, to be directed by Rakesh Sawant.
The film is produced by K K Agrawal and Rajesh Agrawal. Rakesh Sawant, who has earlier directed Hot Money, says, “I am happy that Kaka has agreed to play the role. He liked the subject and the role. Wafaa is a thriller. Rajesh Khanna plays his age in the film. He plays a 70-year old man who has a wife half his age. Laila Khan plays his 35-year old wife. We have shot the entire film in Bangkok and Malaysia and are planning to release the film after the World Cup this year.”
Khanna, who reigned the box-office from 1969 to 1972, was termed Bollywood’s first superstar. His films started flopping by 1977, but films like Daag, Namak Haram, Aap Ki Kasam, Prem Nagar and Roti kept him afloat. The 80s kept him going with films like Thodisi Bewafai, Agar Tum Na Hote and Avtaar. Souten was his last film in 1983. In 1999, Kaka, as he is popularly known, made an undistinguished comeback with Rishi Kapoor’s directorial venture Aa Ab Laut Chalein.
