Mumbai: Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra after making 2006’s best film Rang De Basanti went off to learn writing films. True, for the man has just returned after taking lessons for three weeks from Syd Field, arguably the best screenwriter in the world today.
Mehra’s sojourn to the US for a month has left him enlightened. “It
was a small course and didn’t stop me from thinking. It helped a lot. Syd Field is a senior person and whenever someone senior is able to teach you it is good. Filmmaking is like a mobile. You need to keep recharging it on a regular basis,” he says.
Mehra had a complete one-on-one fixed session with Field a week
after Rang De Basanti released and then met him again in the US where Field disintegrated the Rang De Basanti
script and pieced it back together as well.
The experience has helped Mehra get his act together while penning
the script of his next oeuvre Delhi -6, earlier titled Chandni Chowk. The film stars Abhishek Bachchan in the lead
role.
