Sahara ramps up motion picture business

MUMBAI: With most production houses fortifying their business plans by leaps and bounds, Sahara One Motion Pictures too is rolling up its sleeves now.

Sahara Motion Pictures will be pumping in Rs 100 crores (Rs 1 billion) in the near future for their forthcoming projects as well as for their distribution plans.

Apart from concentrating on production plans, the entertainment firm is also strengthening its distribution arm by aggressively acquiring titles and expanding overseas.

Sahara One Motion Pictures recently distributed their in-house film Strangers overseas and also released My Name is Anthony Gonsalves last week.

Speaking to Businessofcinema.com Sahara One Motion Pictures business head Sharang Sharma says, "We will be setting up offices in the UK, the US and most probably Dubai too. Professionals are already being trained in our UK office, which was set up some time back."

The offices are expected to set up in a period of three months.

Sharma adds, "We are now getting aggressive on our production and distribution front."

Close on the heels of UTV Motion Pictures launching its music label with their production – Jodhaa Akbar; Sahara One Motion Pictures too has plans to launch its music and home video label. However, nothing concrete has been chalked out as yet.

The list of acquired titles include Ravi Wali’s Fauj Mein Mauj starring Mallika Sherawat, Rising Star Entertainment’s De Taali featuring Riteish Deshmukh and Aftab Shivdasani, and Coffee Shop that the company will be producing.

Another film that the company is producing is Bombay Eleven, which is nearing completion. This movie has 11 directors directing 11 short films.

It would be interesting to see how Sahara’s overseas distribution and new titles will add to its entertainment kitty.
