‘Shaitan is like a David Flincher film’: Anurag Kashyap

MUMBAI: The promos of Shaitan, which stars Rajeev Khandelwal, Kalki Koechlin, Neil Bhoopalam, Shiv Pandit, Kirti Kulhari and Gulshan Devaiah, has raised quite a few eyebrows thanks to its contemporary, thrilling and edgy promo.

With novel angles and high speed shots capturing risqué sexual and violent behavior, the trailer gives audiences a taste of the first of its kind film on teenage angst and the rebellious attitudes of youth in metropolitans.

The movie is directed by Bejoy Nambiar and produced by Anurag Kashyap. "The idea was to translate the edginess of the film into the trailer. Today’s youth is aggressive, sexual, violent, edgier and aware of everything happening around. They like to explore the darker side and push the envelope till they can be brought in check by authorities. The film is basically about how well you deal with the shaitaan (demon) within you," Nambiar said.

Kashyap added, "Shaitan is like a David Flincher film set in Mumbai made by an Indian filmmaker. It completely blows you away."

The movie is co-produced by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures’ youth arm Tipping Point Films. Shaitan is slated to release on 10 June, 2011.
