Mumbai, September 5, 2007: Singapore has been conferred the ‘Most Preferred International Holiday Destination’ award in the Travel and Hospitality space by at the prestigious CNBC Awaaz Consumer Awards, India’s leading business channel. Singapore beat destinations such as Malaysia, USA, Switzerland and Australia to come out tops in this initiative conducted jointly by The Nielsen Company and CNBC Awaaz.
The Nielsen Company conducted an in depth market survey among 10,000 consumers in 34 cities, across more than 42 product and service categories. The objective of the survey was to provide marketers with a better understanding of the overall change in the behavioral and spending patterns of Indian consumers. The highest voted brands were awarded at the CNBC Awaaz Consumer Awards 2007.

Singapore Tourism Board is constantly reinventing itself vis-Ã -vis innovative marketing campaigns and novel products and experiences that aim to strike a chord with the end consumer. While in the recent past the Uniquely Singapore Family and Summer Shopping campaigns stimulated a 15% growth in visitor arrival figures for the first half of 2007; the near future will see Singapore rolling out several fascinating initiatives including the Singapore Flyer (Mar 2008), the Formula One World Championship race series (Sep 2008) and the two integrated resorts of The Marina Bay Sands (2009) and Resorts World at Sentosa (2010).
The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) in India is an economic development agency for one of Singapore’s key service sectors – tourism. The mission of the Board is to develop and champion tourism, so as to build the sector into a key driver of economic growth for Singapore. STB’s goal is to create exciting and innovative experiences for visitors, in close partnership with the trade industry, thus etching forever in visitors’ minds an image of Singapore as a unique and compelling destination.
In its third year, the CNBC Awaaz Consumer Awards covered seven categories, including Consumer Durables, Telecom, FMCG, Financial Services, Travel and Hospitality, Retail, and Automobiles, which were further divided into various sub-categories. According to the channel, the focus of the Vote and Awards was towards understanding the preferences of young India.
