Star to launch Marathi entertainment channel in November

Mumbai: Star India has launched its third regional language general entertainment channel, Star Pravah, which is a Marathi general entertainment channel.

Promising to offer "Quality entertainment reflecting Maharashtrian culture, and values", Star Pravah will launch across the state of Maharashtra in mid-November. The channel will feature a mix of talk-shows, historical epics, comedies amongst others.

Star India CEO Uday Shankar said, "With Star Pravah, we hope to touch the chords of our viewers and set new benchmarks in multi-genre Marathi content on television. The discerning viewers of Maharashtra are unwilling to accept mundane, regular formats and are looking for realistic, non melodramatic and meaningful stories. Understanding their needs, we hope to showcase programmes with a strong Marathi cultural bent."

One of the channel’s marquee programs at launch will be the epic series Raja Shivchhatrapati, which is based on Shivaji, the great Maratha warrior king.

Star Pravah represents Star’s third foray into the regional language general entertainment space, following on the footsteps of Vijay (Tamil) and the recently launched Star Jalsha (Bengali).
