Studio 18 CFO Sarkar to join BIG Motion Picture

MUMBAI: Studio 18 chief financial officer (CFO) Shibasish Sarkar will be joining Reliance ADAG’s BIG Motion Picture in the capacity of CFO.

According to sources, his last day with Studio 18 will be 30 June and he will be taking up his new position at BIG Motion Picture on 2 July, 2007. Anil Ambani’s BIG Motion Picture, which falls under the Reliance Entertainment umbrella, is headed by Mahesh Ramanathan.

As was first reported by Businessofcinema.com in April this year, Sarkar had put in his papers but would be serving his three-months’ notice period at the company. Incidentally, an official statement from the company denied the same quoting Studio 18 CEO Sandeep Bhargava as saying, “He is very much the CFO of the company, and is currently on an overseas tour with the CEO.”

Sarkar’s departure comes soon after TV18’s The Indian Film Company was listed on London Stock Exchange’s Alternate Investment Market (AIM) earlier this week. Also pertinent to note is that Studio 18, which is Network 18’s motion picture division, has been merged into Viacom 18 – the joint venture company formed between Viacom and Television 18.

At the time of filing this story, Sarkar was unavailable for comment.
