UTV’s Garg to join Studio 18 as UK head

MUMBAI: The market for international distribution of Bollywood films is surely hotting up with a number of top-notch players like Yash Raj, Eros, Adlabs, UTV, and now, the newest entrant, Studio 18 (Network 18’s motion picture division).


After roping in UTV’s vice-president international distribution and syndication Ashoka Holla; Studio 18 has now appointed UTV business and marketing head for the UK and Ireland Tanuj Garg as the head of its UK office.


According to sources close to the development, Garg’s last day at UTV is today (20 November) and he’s slated to join Studio 18 shortly.


In Garg’s two year stint with UTV, films like Parineeta, Viruddh, Humko Deewana Kar Gaye, Rang De Basanti, Chup Chup Ke and Taxi No. 9211 were released in the UK. What’s more, UTV’s recent release, Don, has grossed £1.4 million in the UK. 
 
Sources add that Garg will be based out of London and will be responsible for the marketing and distribution of produced and acquired films for the UK, besides chalking out potential projects and proposals for production for Studio 18.


Garg is currently a columnist with the Financial Express and has also been associated with many print publications for close to eight years as a critic, columnist and guest writer. Prior to joining UTV, he worked in project development at Birla Group’s Applause Entertainment.
