A Sequel AND A Remake Of Vidya Balan’s ‘Kahaani’

Not only are there plans for a sequel of Bollywood suspense thriller 'Kahaani', starring Vidya Balan, but now, we also hear news of a remake.

MUMBAI: Not only are there plans for a sequel of Bollywood suspense thriller ‘Kahaani’, but now, we also hear news of a remake. Featuring Vidya Balan in the role of a pregnant woman in search of her missing husband in Kolkata during the Durga Puja festivities, ‘Kahaani’ reigned mighty at the awards show for 2012, with Vidya bagging away the ‘Best Actress’ in most.

Sources tell us that renowned director Sekhar Kammula, who represented Indian Cinema at the Cannes Film Festival (2011), plans to remake the sleeper hit film in Telugu. This would be a first in his 14 year career.

The shooting of the South version of ‘Kahaani’ will commence most likely in the month of April. The source reveals, “Nayantara who will step into the shoes of Vidya Balan. But, Sekhar Kammula will not remake the film as a straight adaptation like an outright remake. While, the Telugu version will retain the thrills and essence of the original it will have some new ideas added to it. Yendamuri Veerendernath is working on the script adaptation and the film. However, the movie is an official remake of the original Bollywood film ‘Kahaani’ and will be produced in Telugu and Tamil.”

Sujoy Ghosh the original director, writer and co-producer of ‘Kahaani’, will reportedly co-produce the remake as well.

As for the sequel to the saga of Vidya Bagchi, says Ghosh, “The film is in its scripting stage. I have just started writing it so we have a long way to go. Of course, we will have Vidya Balan in the film and rest of the characters will also be the same.”
