BOX OFFICE: ‘Special Chabbis’, ‘ABCD’ Sail Through First Week

Both Viacom 18's 'Special Chabbis' and UTV Motion Pictures' 'ABCD' have sailed through their first week at the box office.

MUMBAI: Both Viacom 18’s ‘Special Chabbis’ and UTV Motion Pictures’ ‘ABCD’ have sailed through their first week at the box office.

Though both the films (released on 8 February) took a soft to average first day at the box office, they managed to show a decent upsurge in their opening weekend and hold fort during the weekdays.

As previously reported: the Akshay Kumar, Anupam Kher, Jimmy Shergill and Manoj Bajpayee starrer ‘Special Chabbis’ earned approximately Rs 62.5 million (Rs 6.25 crore net) on day 1. By day 3, the film’s total was in the range of Rs 248.5 million (Rs 24.85 crore) net. Through the weekdays, Neeraj Pandey’s film pulled through, settling at about Rs 334.5 million (Rs 33.45 crore) net in 5 days.

Remo D’Souza’s ‘ABCD’ on the other hand, made on a modest budget, collected approximately Rs 45 million (Rs 4.5 crore) net on day 1. Over the weekend, showing an adequate rise, the 3 day total of the Prabhu Deva starrer came up to about Rs 178.5 million (Rs 17.85 crore) net. Again, for ‘ABCD’ the weekdays did not abate too much, bringing the 5 day total in the range of 238 million (Rs 23.8 crore) net.

The word of mouth has been pretty strong for Akshay Kumar’s heist film, and as for ‘ABCD’, probably being India’s answer to the ‘Step Up’ series has worked in its favour. The first week totals of the films are decent, with ‘Special Chabbis’ having garnered approximately Rs 390.6 million (Rs 39.6 crore) net, and ‘AnyBody Can Dance’ about Rs 300 million (Rs 30 crore) net.
