MUMBAI: Bollywood’s gorgeous couple – Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan celebrate their sixth marriage anniversary today, April 20, 2013.
Abhishek recalls their first meeting. “The first time I met Aishwarya was in August 1997. I was on a recce for my father’s film ‘Mrityudata’ in Switzerland and she was shooting her first film ‘Aur Pyar Ho Gaya’ with my dear friend Bobby Deol. I remember one evening Bobby invited me over to his hotel for dinner and Aishwarya and the rest of the unit were there. That was the first time I actually met her,” said Abhishek.
In 2000, the couple shot their first film together ‘Dhai Akshar Prem Ke’. However back then both of the stars didn’t hit it off. Back then, almost a decade ago, Abhishek was engaged to actress Karisma Kapoor and Aishwarya was dating Salman Khan.
Then came ‘Kajra re’ of ‘Bunty Aur Babli’ (2005), one of the most popular item numbers of all times. The couple along with Amitabh Bachchan danced and charmed the audiences .
During the shoot of ‘Umrao Jaan’ (2006), rumours began spreading that the actors had began dating. However, the stars kept their personal life personal, and remained tight-lipped even after the release of the film. The same year the two were seen in ‘Dhoom 2’ but were not paired together.
“If you ask her, she will tell you the same thing – that the minute we came together, we both knew that this was something for keeps. So, there wasn’t just this ‘one’ defining moment, it always felt perfect,” said Abhishek.
On January 14, 2007, the much-in-love couple confirmed that they would be soon tying the knot. They got married on this day (April 20) in 2007 according to Hindu rites and also performed North Indian and Bengali ceremonies.
After their marriage the couple starred opposite each other in ‘Sarkar Raj’ (2008) and were also seen together in ‘Ravan’ in 2010.
They had their first child, a baby girl named Aaradhya Bachchan on November 16, 2011. Continuing the family tradition, Aaradhya is addressed as Beti B. Aishwarya has been a possessive and loving mother, trying her best to keep the media away from her daughter. With Aaradhya just months away from turning two, Aishwarya has become more comfortable with the shutterbugs.
“I really owe this (success) to Aishwarya and the love and support she has given me. She makes me the person that I am,” said Abhishek receiving the Stardust Award for Best Comedy Actor in ‘Bol Bachchan’.
Wishing the couple a very happy marriage anniversary and hope to see a few more little ‘B’s soon!
