Director Anurag Kashyap is in news for both: professional as well as personal reasons.
On the personal front: Anurag Kashyap’s marriage with Kalki Koechlin is in trouble, and the couple stated in a joint statement last month that they were separating. This is Anurag’s second marriage. “I don’t think it is anybody’s business to know what is happening in my personal life. We issued a joint statement, and that should end all speculations, if any,” Anurag very vehemently told the media.
Kalki and Anurag fell in love while working on Dev D in 2009, and got married in 2011.
On the professional front: Anurag Kashyap is very clear that he will not want to release his latest film Ugly with the anti-smoking warning message. The censor board had asked Anurag to carry the warning “Smoking Is Injurious To Health” in all the scenes of his film where the characters have been shown smoking. But, Anurag has refused to add the disclaimer and subsequently filed a petition in the court. He has approached the Bombay High Court against the Censor Board, after it objected to the exclusion of the anti-smoking disclaimers in his upcoming film Ugly. Anurag stated that he is a socially responsible filmmaker, and will fight till the end to secure justice in the matter, and will even go to the Supreme Court if things did not turn in his favor.
Anurag Kashyap is very clear. He says that this warning destroys the aesthetic value of a film, and distracts audience from the movie, and it return ruins the experience of watching a film. It is his film, his creativity, and he does not want to destroy it, following a rule that does not make any sense to him.
“I feel I am being bullied by the Health Ministry, and I refuse to take that bullying. If you think cigarette intake is harmful, then stop the tobacco industry, don’t take revenue from it,” said Anurag Kashyap.
Anurag is now very clear on his stand, and he would not release Ugly with these notifications, and will not give up the fight at any cost. He said that India is a democratic country, and it his right to voice his opinion and fight for it.
Ugly is a psychological thriller, and an emotional drama, starring Girish Kulkarni, Ronit Roy, Tejaswini Kolhapure, Vinit Kumar Singh and Surveen Chawla.
We hope that this fight ends soon, and the audiences will finally be able to watch Anurag Kashyap’s Ugly.
