MUMBAI: The first look poster of Balaji Motion Pictures’ next ‘Shootout at Wadala’ has been revealed. The film stars a huge cast of John Abraham, Anil Kapoor, Kangna Ranaut, Manoj Bajpai, Tusshar, Sonu Sood, Mahesh Manjrekar, Ronit Roy, Siddhant Kapoor and many more.

A highly awaited film ‘Shootout at Wadala’, directed by Sanjay Gupta is based on a real-life shocking story, of Manya Surve, the first desperado in the Bombay gangland. The first educated Hindu gangster whose reign of terror was in the area of Agar Bazaar, Dadar. John Abraham plays the role of Manya Surve, the Maharashtrian lad, who will be the the first to be “encountered” by the then Inspector Issaq Bagwan played by Anil Kapoor and his team.

Director Sanjay Gupta shared that the story came to his mind while thinking about encounters that took place on the streets of the city, “Till date, there have been more than 850 encounters on the streets of Mumbai.” The first encounter on the streets, was by the launch of Operation Manya Surve led by inspectors Isaque Bagwan and Raja Tambhat to put an end to ‘Bambai ka naya baap, Manya Surve,’ (how he was known to the people then).

On January 11, 1982, Bombay witnessed its first ever police encounter outside Wadala College which is known as the ‘Shootout at Wadala’ in police history.
