An Imam from Srinagar has threatened to take director Vishal Bharadwaj to the court for using the footage of him in the movie Haider.
Shahid, Tabu starrer Haider was shot in Kashmir. Ghulam Hassan Shah of Kund has claimed that he has been featured in the scene which depicts the nikah ceremony of Tabu and Kay Kay Menon.
Four months after the film’s release, Shah has sent a legal notice to the director claiming that he was tricked into becoming part of the film. He said to a daily that “I was told that the footage featuring me will be used for educational purposes but it was used in the film instead,”.
Shah is the Imam of the mosque and has claimed that he has lost the job for the marriage scene of Tabu and Kay Kay Menon.
Shah has asked an apology to the director of the movie Vishal Bharadwaj or compensation of 50 Lakh Rupees in national press for “defaming” him in the movie.
The lawyer said his client had given his consent to the shoot on the assurance that the footage would be used for an “educational purpose”.
Shah explained how he was fooled to make the footage. He said he was taken to some place where he was asked to show for the camera how a nikaah is performed. He was not informed that the footage would be used in any film. No other actors were present at that moment.
The crew has no idea about this yet as it is news for them too. It is legal section of the film to decide what to do with the claim and solve it.
