MUMBAI: It is going to be a very ‘Happy New Year’ for Priyanka Chopra in 2013 after all. The Bollywood actress and singing sensation is back from L.A, and has returned to some fantastic news indeed.

Fresh from a trip to the U.S.A, Priyanka landed late last night into Mumbai’s Chatrapati Shivaji International Airport, clad in what we’ll now call ‘airport chic’. A light grey singlet which read ‘B Happy’ (presumably revealing the actress’ current state of mind), a pair of stone-washed jeans and a black leather jacket was her ensemble of choice.

A little before departure the actress tweeted, “Taking the longest almost 24 hr flight back home and going straight for Screen Awards rehearsals! killer act planned! Now just need to rehearse”

Reports had recently hinted at Shah Rukh Khan being very keen on casting Priyanka in Farah Khan’s upcoming ‘Happy New Year’. And now, his wish has been fulfilled with Priyanka reportedly signing on the dotted line.

Priyanka and Shah Rukh’s budding friendship had been slammed by one and all, including Karan Johar and SRK’s wife Gauri Khan. But the actor has stuck firmly by her side, and is not bothered of getting the tongues wagging once again with this casting. Farah had been in a conundrum for the longest time, unsure of whom to cast opposite Shah Rukh Khan for ‘Happy New Year’. Names such as Deepika Padukone, Sonakshi Sinha, Katrina Kaif, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Parineeti were being considered by the filmmaker. But Shah Rukh stepped in and solved Farah’s problem by insisting on having Priyanka in the film.

Priyanka’s already had a smashing 2012, with ‘Agneepath’ entering the coveted ‘100 crore club’. She received rave reviews for her turn in ‘Barfi!’ as the autistic girl who falls in love with a deaf and mute boy, played charmingly by Ranbir Kapoor. She even released her first international debut single ‘In My City’, and received accolades for that as well.

Priyanka’s 2013 calendar looks choc-a-bloc as well: she has ‘Zanjeer’, ‘Gunday’, Indian Olympic-winning boxer Mary Kom’s biopic and now ‘Happy New Year’ in her kitty. It sure looks as if the Chopra diva is all set to rock this New Year as well, and retain her title as Bollywood’s No. 1 actress.
