MUMBAI: After playing Meenalochini, a perfectly non bokwaas Tamilian lady in ‘Channai Express’ (Read Chennai Express), Deepika Padukone is all set to play a Marathi mulgi in Farah Khan’s ‘Happy New Year’.

Deepika Padukone will be essaying the role of an out-of-work bar dancer in the film who helps Shah Rukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Vivaan Shah and Sonu Sood win a dance competition abroad.

The song ‘Indiawaale’ currently being shot in Dubai will have the men (characterized as raucous dancers) win a competition with Deepika in the lead.

Farah Khan had said that Deepika Padukone would play the role of a Maharastrian girl. Deepika essays the role of a bar dancer and the story focuses on the time when the ban on dance bars was imposed.

This isn’t the first time that Deepika will be essaying the role of a Marathi mulgi. In Pradeep Sarkar’s ‘Lafangey Parindey’ too she played a Maharashtrian blind girl. Incidentally she played a dancer in that film too.

Wil Deepika Padukone manage to raise the bar with her classy Marathi act as in ‘Chennai Express’ will be seen once ‘Happy New Year’ trailers are out or the film releases.
