MUMBAI: Biopics are the in-thing in Bollywood and everyone knew that. But so far, they were only concentrating on sportspersons.
We had Irrfan Khan portray Paan Singh Tomar and Farhan Akhtar portray Milkha Singh in ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’. In the future, Priyanka Chopra will also play boxer Mary Kom. But now looks like Bollywood will finally look beyond sportspersons.
Paresh Rawal, who produced and acted in last year’s sleeper hit ‘OMG – Oh My God!’, will now act in a biopic on Gujarat’s Chief Minister Narendra Modi as Narendra Modi himself. Paresh Rawal will also co-produce the film along with Mitesh Kumar Patel, an NRI who initially floated the idea of making a film on the Prime Ministerial candidate’s life.
A source said, “Paresh Rawal and Narendra Modi go back a long way. He is quite in awe of Modi.” Paresh Rawal himself said, “I hope I am being modest but I am the obvious choice to play Modi’s role.”
Paresh Rawal also said that he had informed Narendra Modi about the film, “He has no issues about it.” Rawal also added, “For those suggesting that Modi will be monitoring the film, let me tell you he won’t.”
The actor will undergo a look test in December, in time for the film to go on floors in February 2014. It is not known yet whether the film will skip or tackle the controversial parts of Narendra Modi’s life. It is also intriguing to know whether the film will be ready in time for the elections next year.
