[tps_footer]For those of you who aspire to enter the glitzy and glamorous Bollywood industry, you may have often heard the term ‘casting couch; being thrown around a lot. This basically refers to se**al favors being traded for a role or a job. As creepy and unethical as it sounds, it is a reality many aspirants have had to deal with in the past.
On many occasions it has come to light that the casting couch phenomena exists in the Bollywood industry. Although the topic has not been widely talked about; actors like Ranveer Singh, Kalki Koechlin and even the brashly outspoken Kangana Ranaut have come ahead with their own experiences. Adding to this list is actor Ayushmann Khurrana, who spoke to a leading daily about his own experience with the casting couch.
In the interview, when Ayushmann was asked about the existence of casting couch, he said, “In fact, I have been through that. Initially when I was part of the industry I was a TV anchor, so a casting director directly told me that I would have to do it.” Khurrana continues, “So, I told him that if I was not straight, I might have given it a thought, but I can’t do it.” He quips that although the casting couch exists, eventually, it’s your talent or potential as an actor or performer that decides how successful you are.
When probed further on whether he would judge someone who would give in to the demands and become a victim of casting couch, Khurrana disagreed. According to the ‘Vicky Donor’ star it is unethical on part of casting directors to ask such favors from aspiring actors.
