Police Complaint Against Salman Khan, Shilpa Shetty Over Casteist Comment, Actress Apologises!

Bollywood actors Salman Khan and Shilpa Shetty Kundra have landed in legal trouble for using a casteist slur on national television!

Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif starrer Tiger Zinda Hai is roaring at the box office!  The actors are receiving praises for their acting skills but Salman is news for a grave reason. Salman Khan and Shilpa Shetty Kundra allegedly used a casteist slur against a scheduled caste on national television. And that has landed these two celebrities in legal trouble!

The incident happened on the sets of the popular dance reality show- Super Dancer. The show is judged by Shilpa Shetty Kundra, choreographer Geeta Kapoor and filmmaker Anurag Basu. Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif were on the kids’ dance show to promote their latest action-drama film Tiger Zinda Hai. Allegedly, Salman first used the casteist slur word- bh**gi while referring to his dancing skills. As a reply, Shilpa too used the slur to describe how she looks at home.

Some reports suggest that the incident took place some two years ago during an interview.

The use of the slur has not gone well with the Valmiki community. The community has filed a legal complaint against Salman and Shilpa for hurting the people’s sentiments. Valmiki Samaj Action Committee Delhi Pradesh even shared a copy of the filed complaint on their official Facebook page.

Yesterday the Valmiki community held protests against Bollywood actors Salman Khan and Shilpa Shetty in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh.

This is not all, the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) has asked for action to taken by the Information and Broadcasting Ministry. The Commision has also implored the police commissioners of Delhi and Mumbai to take action against the use of the slur.

The NCSC has asked for action to be taken within a week against Salman and Shilpa as per the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Prevention of Atrocities Act, 2015.

A notice was issued by the Commission after it received a complaint from an ex-chairman of the Delhi Commission for Safai Karamcharis, Harnam Singh.

Shilpa Shetty tweeted an apology for the same and wrote, “Some of my words from an interview in the past have been misinterpreted.It was never said with the intent of hurting anyone’s feelings…” Shilpa further added, “I apologize if they have. I’m proud to belong to a country that boasts of diverse castes and creeds and I respect each one of them. .”
