MUMBAI: Bollywood actor Rishi Kapoor will be seen playing a character reportedly inspired by Vijay Mallya in Subhash Ghai’s next directorial venture ‘Kaanchi’.
Subhash Ghai last worked with Rishi Kapoor in the 1980 hit film ‘Karz’, where Rishi played a pop star Monty. Subhash Ghai said, “It was a crazy experience for me to work with Rishi after 32 years. It was tough to make him powerful, interesting and evil after presenting him as a squeaky clean lover boy and pop icon in ‘Karz’.”
Rishi’s role in the upcoming ‘Kaanchi’ is a “mix of Vijay Mallya and his character Monty from Karz,” said a source. An insider added, “Rishi plays a villain in ‘Kaanchi’ and is an ageing Lothario, a seducer and a skirt-chaser who loves women and who could be a lover, musician and a killer.”
Confirming the news, Ghai said, “Rishi plays a business tycoon surrounded by beautiful girls. He has a very upright wife at home. But he likes to play the field even at his age. He will be seen with a lot of star-models.”
The actor also helped in deciding the look and the get-up for the character, Kapoor said, “It was challenge for us to create a character who was larger than life and yet realistic.”
