MUMBAI: Theaters have been known to charge producers to advertise their films in multiplexes whether it be on infrastructure like standees, and back-lit displays. Recently, they introduced a fee for attaching trailers to released films.
These charges, quite exorbitant at Rs 15 lakh per week, meant that a production house would have to cough up Rs 30 lakh per film, as a trailer was usually retained for two weeks. Besides, this would be the charge just for a single multiplex chain.
Therefore, it comes as a big surprise that multiplex owners are willing to run director Rakesh Roshan’s ‘Krrish 3’ trailer, starring Hrithik Roshan as the masked superhero, for free. He has been receiving calls from many multiplex owners over the past few days telling him that they won’t charge him for the ‘Krrish 3’ trailer.
Anand Vishal, Head of Operations at Fun Cinemas said, “We are very happy to promote ‘Krissh 3’. The film is estimated to touch the Rs 200 crore mark at the box-office. It’s a win-win situation for us.”
Coincidentally, the trailer of ‘Krrish 3’ will be coming out with Shah Rukh Khan’s next film ‘Chennai Express’. Will we see multiplex owners make this a regular practice?
