MUMBAI: Last week, one big budget Hollywood film and one Bollywood film hit the marquee. Unsurprisingly, the science fiction thriller, ‘Gravity’ directed by Alfonso Cuaron and starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, pulled audiences towards it over the Bollywood war comedy.
In the opening weekend, Cuaron’s gorgeously visual tale of two surviving astronauts drifting in space emerged victorious, garnering approximately Rs 62.2 million (Rs 6.22 crore) net, including paid previews. The film saw a wide opening, with a release in 195 screens totally: that’s 3 in IMAX, and 192 in 3D.
Meanwhile, India’s first war comedy, ‘War Chhod Na Yaar’ directed by Faraz Haider and starring Soha Ali Khan, Sharman Joshi and Javed Jaffrey saw opening weekend figures in the range of Rs 41 million (Rs 4.10 crore) net.
