Box Office: Hangover 2 beats Kung Fu Panda 2 in India in opening weekend

MUMBAI: Warner Bros’ The Hangover Part 2 has taken the global box office by storm. What’s more, the movie, which was released in India with 136 prints in English, has grossed approximately Rs 67 million (Rs 6.7 crore) in its opening weekend here.

On the other hand, the animation film Kung Fu Panda 2, which was also released alongside The Hangover 2, saw gross collections of approximately Rs 55 million (Rs 5.5 crore).

While The Hangover 2’s gross collections on Friday stood at Rs 20.4 million (Rs 2.04 crore), on Saturday and Sunday the movie picked up pace at the box office with collections of approximately Rs 22.3 million (Rs 2.23 crore) and Rs 24 million (Rs 2.4 crore).

As per Warner Bros India, The Hangover 2 has seen the biggest opening of all time for a non dubbed MPA film beating Danny Boyle’s 127 Hours.

The movie has also seen the biggest opening weekend of 2011 for a Warner Bros film beating Sucker Punch by a huge margin of approximately 155%. The movie also saw average occupancy of 65 – 70 per cent in traditional Hindi speaking markets like Kota, Bhopal etc.
