Box Office: Lafangey Parindey takes average opening

MUMBAI: Director Pradeep Sarkar’s second film for Yash Raj Films, Lafangey Parindey had an average opening with about 50 per cent occupancy.

On Friday, Lafangey Parindey saw net collections of approximately Rs 35 million (Rs 3.5 crore) across India. According to estimates, the movie’s opening weekend net collections should be in the range of Rs 105 – 110 million (Rs 10.50 – 11 crore).

On the other hand, Aamir Khan Productions’ Peepli [Live] has done net business of approximately Rs 210 million (Rs 21 crore) in its first week at the Indian box office.

While Lafangey Parindey did not open well at some of the multiplexes with about 30 – 40 per cent occupancy, the opening at most of the multiplexes have been average.

Speaking to Businessofcinema.com, BIG Cinemas (West and South) COO Ashish Saxena said, “The opening has been okay with about 60 per cent occupancy. The opening at the single screens might not have been that great but at multiplexes its decent. The film did not pick up on Saturday but neither has there been a drop in the collections.”

Fun Cinemas COO Vishal Kapur added, “Lafangey Parindey opened to about 50 per cent occupancy, which is not bad and over the weekend the film should do well. The response to the film has been mixed and the people who have watched the film have liked it.”

The film stars Neil Nitin Mukesh and Deepika Padukone and is based in the chawls of Mumbai. Padukone plays a blind girl who wants to win a reality show in the film, while Neil plays a boxer.
