MUMBAI: Vivek Oberoi starrer Prince – It’s Showtime has come as a breather for the film industry. The movie has brought much respite to the box office business with opening weekend net collections of approximately Rs 110 million (Rs 11 crore) in India.
The movie has especially done well in smaller centers like Bihar, West Bengal, UP, CP – CI etc. The film opened overall with around 45 – 50 per cent occupancy.
On the other hand, Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai (JKSAH) starring Ritiesh Deshmukh and Jacqueline Fernandez, has not opened well at the box office with around 15 – 20 per cent occupancy, even though the occupancy on Saturday was better than Friday. The movie did a net business of approximately Rs 20 million (Rs 2 crore) in its opening weekend.
Speaking to Businessofcinema.com Fun Cinemas COO Vishal Kapur said, "Prince is doing well in the smaller centers but the collections of Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai on Friday, was not good. However, having said that, the film has picked up on Saturday to a certain extent."
Inox vice president programming and distribution Utpal Acharya added, "The audience have appreciated the stunts, style and action in Prince especially in the smaller centers and as for Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai, it has opened as expected even though the people have liked the content and it should pick up by word of mouth."
Producer Kumar Taurani said, "The response to Prince has been amazing. A certain multiplex was playing the film on only one of their properties and it has now increased it to four more theaters."
