MUMBAI: Prakash Jha’s multi-starrer political drama Raajneeti has taken a super opening at the Indian box office. The movie opened to approximately 80 – 90 per cent occupancy at multiplexes across the country in the morning and noon shows.
According to initial reports with Businessofcinema.com, the movie has taken a very good opening at multiplexes. The positive word of mouth is expected to boost the movie’s performance at the box office through the weekend. Given the political theme of the movie, its performance at single screens is also likely to be positive.
The movie has done particularly well in circuits like Rajasthan, UP, Maharashtra, Gujarat, CP-CI, Delhi and Punjab.
However, down south in Hyderabad, Nizam and AP the movie has taken an average opening with average occupancy of about 40 – 50 per cent in multiplexes and single screens. In Bangalore, Raajneeti saw occupancy of approximately 40 – 50 per cent in single screens and around 70 – 80 per cent in multiplexes. On the other hand, in Bihar, the movie has done good business in the city, whereas response from the interiors was okay.
Raajneeti stars Ajay Devgn, Nasseruddin Shah, Arjun Rampal, Ranbir Kapoor, Manoj Bajpai and Katrina Kaif amongst others. It is co-produced by Prakash Jha and UTV Motion Pictures.
