Even though the cricket fever was on everyone’s mind on Sunday, Ranbir Kapoor’s Roy did quite well at the Box Office in its first weekend. The film had a decent weekend grossing, despite India and Pakistan’s cricket match on Sunday. Roy pulled around Rs. 9.20 Crore (92 million) on its first day, Friday.
On Valentine’s Day, Roy grossed around Rs. 10 Crore nett (100 million) but on Sunday, the film failed to pull in good numbers by earning only Rs. 5.45 Crore nett (54 million). However, directed by Vikramjit Singh, the romantic thriller Bollywood film managed to mint Rs. 24.65 Crore nett (246 million) in its first weekend, which is quite decent, taking in account the lost Roy faced due to cricket match.
Roy, that stars Jacqueline Fernandez and Arjun Rampal, is doing well at multiplexes, especially in the cities like Mumbai, Delhi and East Punjab. While the critics have slammed Arjun‘s film for its poor plot, the film had a good weekend start at the Box Office. It’ll be interesting to see if Roy manages to pull in good numbers in the following week, as there is no trend for the film.
Though the film received negative reactions from the audiences, presence of Ranbir Kapoor in the film and catchy soundtrack seems to be the plus point for director Vikramjit Singh‘s Roy.
