MUMBAI: Round one of the ‘Chopra Wars’ at the box office, between Parineeti Chopra and her cousin Priyanka Chopra has gone to the younger one’s ‘Shuddh Desi Romance’, which beat ‘Zanjeer’ hollow.
Directed by Maneesh Sharma and produced by YRF, ‘Shuddh Desi Romance’ did exceedingly well in week one, garnering approximately Rs 348.2 million (Rs 34.82 crore) net.
As reported, the film, starring Parineeti, Sushant Singh Rajput and Rishi Kapoor, garnered close to Rs 64.2 million (Rs 6.42 crore) net on opening day.
Meanwhile, ‘Zanjeer’ proved out to be a box office disaster, opening with half the collections of ‘Shuddh Desi Romance’. On opening day, ‘Zanjeer’ starring Priyanka Chopra, Ram Charan and Prakash Raj, managed a mere Rs 31 million (Rs 3.1 crore) net.
By the end of the first week, the collections for ‘Zanjeer’ stood at a lackluster Rs 141.5 million (Rs 14.15 crore) net.
As one can see, the week one collections for ‘Zanjeer’ are not a patch on ‘Shuddh Desi Romance’s total week 1 figures.
