MUMBAI: Viacom 18’s ‘Special Chabbis’, starring Akshay Kumar, Kajal Aggarwal and Anupam Kher in lead roles, has picked up the pace over its opening weekend. The Neeraj Pandey directorial hit theatres on Friday, 8 February, and has seen a good upsurge since Day 1.
As we reported, Pandey’s intricate suspense film ‘Special 26’ had managed to garner an average approximate Rs 62.5 million (Rs 6.25 crore net) on Day 1. The territories of Mumbai, Delhi and parts of Punjab were major contributors to the film’s business.
Day 2, Saturday saw a business in the range of Rs 86 million (Rs 8.60 crore) net at the ticketing windows. Day 3 Sunday was even better with a business of approximately Rs 100 million (Rs 10 crore) net. The 3 day total of the film was thereby close to Rs 248.5 million (Rs 24.85 crore) net.
The word of mouth has been quite strong for this Akshay Kumar and Anupam Kher starrer. From previous releases, it was only ‘Race 2’ which posed as a threat, but the film’s run has now gradually fettered out. Amongst current releases débutante director and ace choreographer Remo D’Souza’s ‘Anybody Can Dance’ has also seen a fair pick up over the weekend, but is clearly meant for a niche audience.
